Chile is a democratic country with a population of 16,601,700. Once every 25 years we have an earthquake, but nothing seems to shakes us that bad!
We are very proud to say Chile is the most developed, stable, organized and safe country in the region… without losing its South American spirit.
Chile has a large ATM coverage (known as Redbanc) which uses the Plus (Visa) or Cirrus (MasterCard) systems and is likely to accept your debit or credit card if it works with either of these systems. You will be able to find at least one in every major town and most of them will have instructions in English. It´s very easy! Pick the 'foreign card' option before starting the transaction and then just follow the instructions.
Many restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and gas stations have free broadband/ Wi-Fi connections, so will your hostel/ hotel… internet cafes are a bit outdated, but you’ll be sure to find a few spotted around.
Very few countries need a visa for Chile. Citizens of the European Union, United States, Canada and Australia do not need a visa. Once you have gone through customs you will recive a 90 day permit, renewable for a further 90 days. Unfortunately there’s this tax called the reciprocity tax which Americans (USD100 cash), Canadians (USD55) and Australians (USD XX) must pay in cash when entering the county.
Chile has a very good and secure highway system, with many gas stations along the way. Buses are safe, quick and comfortable.
